2020 Festival Canceled

Clute Park, Watkins Glen, NY

Watkins Glen Italian American Festival

2020 Festival

Clearly we are facing some unprecedented times, and due to this, difficult decisions regarding future events need to be made. Many months and much time goes into planning our festival, with our goal to provide a fun weekend for all who attend the event. It is with our deepest regret that the Committee announces that the decision has been made to cancel the 2020 festival due to current events in our state/country. The uncertainty of when our state will open back up, and not knowing what limitations may be placed on large events such as ours, this decision seems to be what’s best at this time. We will work towards making the 2021 festival the best one ever. Stay safe/stay healthy.

About the festival

The festival was founded by a small group of Italian Americans residing in Watkins Glen to honor the Feast of the Assumption, which occurs each August. To celebrate, a procession of men carried the Virgin Mary on their shoulders through the streets of the village, ending in Lafayette Park. Over the years, the celebration grew and the location had to be changed to Clute Park. It is now a two day event that attracts more than 50,000 visitors to the village of Watkins Glen.

The Watkins Glen Italian American Festival, Inc. is a 501c3 corporation operated by a volunteer staff of officers and committee members, who donate their time, energy,  and labor twelve months of the year to prepare for the annual event.  In addition to the festival staff, approximately fifty volunteers help on the festival weekend. New volunteers are always welcome.

Our goal is to provide a fun-filled family atmosphere, and has become a traditional gathering spot for thousands who return each year.  We strive to provide something for everyone to enjoy.
